Forefront Or Overbearing
This is the question being raised in Chicago. Is Chicago leading the way in modern thinking, or are we the victims of a "Government Gone Wild"? Chicago has banned smoking in public places, banned cell phone use while driving and outlawed foie gras within city limits. What is the newest target for City Council?
(AP)In this city that once winked at Prohibition, members of the City Council are trying to crack down on things they deem unhealthy, immoral or just plain annoying. And while I have my issues with some of Daley's views, I agree with him here.
A proposal that would restrict fast-food chains from cooking with artery-clogging trans fat oils got a public airing last week
"We have children getting killed by gang leaders and dope dealers," an angry Mayor Richard M. Daley said earlier this year. "We have real issues here in this city. And we're dealing with foie gras? Let's get some priorities."The practice or making of foie gras is a disgrace and probably should be outlawed, but name which practice of killing animals for food is really humane? So I ask again, is Chicago on the forefront or has it become too overbearing?
