(Seattle Times)A City Council candidate has pleaded not guilty to assault and disorderly conduct involving a tug-of-war over a Mexican flag at an immigration-rights rally.
Greg Sterling was arrested April 6 after confronting a group of high-school students in front of City Hall. Sterling said he asked the students not to display the flag.
Police said Sterling pulled students into a roadway during the tussle.
They also said the assault charge stemmed from an alleged attack on a female student at the rally.
Sterling declined a repeated court offer of an attorney and said he would seek outside counsel.
No trial date has been set.
