Australian Wheat Board Paid $217 Million To Saddam
Australian PM John Howard was on trial today to explain his governments position on illegal kickbacks to Saddam Hussein.
(M&C)Howard repeated the government's mantra that it knew nothing of the corruption allegations when he took the witness stand at a judicial inquiry set up to investigate claims that the Australian Wheat Board (AWB) paid bribes to deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. So I would assume that Fosters, the Blooming Onion and Crocodile Dundee are now enemies of the state!
The United Nations Volcker inquiry claimed AWB channelled 280 million Australian dollars (217 million US dollars) to Saddam as 'land transport fees' in contravention of the rules of the oil-for-food humanitarian programme.
