Americans Not Concerned With War

A group of military leaders, policy analysts and academics got together at the Army War College to ask this question, "What are the implications if a nation goes to war and its people barely pay attention?"It turns out that Americans after 3 years, don't pay much attention anymore.

(AP)The public's interest in Iraq has dipped since the 2003 invasion, when close to six in 10 were closely following news about the war. Polling early this year found 40 percent paying very close attention to the situation in Iraq - less than the 47 percent that closely followed the mining disaster in West Virginia. And far more people were closely following news about high gas prices in October and November of last year, according to the Pew Research Center.
So what about conservatives? We always hear them say things like, "How can you attack the President when we are at war?" or "If you are against the war, you don't support the troops!" You know, the talking points we hear when they want us to believe that the war in Iraq is the most important thing to them. What does a fellow at a conservative think tank, think?
James Carafano, a research fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation think tank, said he believes Americans have sacrificed by sending troops to war and paying taxes. The amount of resources devoted to the fight should be in proportion to what is needed, Carafano said.

"The notion that somehow a nation is only at war if everyone is growing a victory garden is silly," said Carafano
You mean the crowd that was so offended by Mexican flags in the last few weeks? So the "Support the troops at all cost" crowd thinks taxes are all we need to contribute as citizens. After all, you and I don't have the power to "sacrifice" any troops. So, why keep cutting the taxes on the uber rich and burdening the middle class with a war to pay for also?

But what I really think this shows is the view of the "New" Republican party. The troops are really just plastic or wooden soldiers to them and the Middle East is nothing more than a Risk game board.

They talk a good game with religion and mentioning God or Jesus. Creating wars on Christmas, Santa and now the Easter Bunny. Having people like Ann Coulter running around saying that liberals hate America. Meanwhile, as apparent by James Carafano comments, the "New" Republicans are the ones that really don't care about our troops and our country. Rather it's $$$ that gets them excited and makes them patriotic!
