Will Your Vote Be Counted Correctly?

I'm just finished watching a documentary on HBO called Hacking Democracy, which basically shows how quickly and easily someone can override or manipulate an electronic voting machine. Whether it is throwing away signed paper receipts, that by law need to be kept, or by hacking, in a matter of seconds, a computer or e-voting machine to produce results different from the actual votes.

In 2004 I voted by absentee ballot, so I don't know how things went around here. But more and more stories are coming out on how unreliable these voting machines are. The latest is by NBC. The thing that gets me about this article is how the "other potential" issues are the fact that votes might not be counted correctly. People still don't seem to get it.

(NBC)Other potential problems: Some states don't require a paper trail, making recounts all but impossible. And some critics even worry about computer hackers manipulating election results.
Unfortunately our democracy has regressed to the point where we need the same voting officials that are sent to third world countries to make sure their elections go smoothly.
