And Positioning For 2008 Begins

Who is going to run? Who isn't? Can anyone beat Hillary Clinton or John McCain?

The first question seems to be the one that is beginning to get answered, for the Dems at least. Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack is the first Dem to officially file paperwork. Unofficially Sen. Hillary Clinton, former Sen. John Edwards, Sen. Russ Feingold, Gov. Bill Richardson, Sen. Evan Bayh, former V.P. Al Gore, former Gov. Mark Warner(even thought he said he won't) and the newcomer to the party, Sen. Barack Obama.

On the right, it seems like a one horse race as long as he doesn't screw it up. Sen. John McCain seems to be the only one willing to accept the label. Sen. Allen was thinking of a run, but with his apparent loss in Virginia, there might be a hold on that. Although if I were him and I was still thinking of running, I would probably concede to Webb too. So who knows. Is former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani going to run? Will his past be a stumbling block, or has the religious right lost some pull after these elections?

I am sure we will start to hear soon enough. I hope these elections have show that Americans are tired of dirty politics and dirty campaigning. It's time for the grown-ups to act like grown-ups!
