Why Doesn't The Senate Get Anything Done?
War in Iraq and Afghanistan, NSA spying and illegal wire-tapping, a lack of an energy plan, debt that has reached epic proportions and an immigration and border problem, and these are just from a liberals perspective. So why is it with issues like these that Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) has decided to take up the very important and pressing issue of.....
(Hill Blog)Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) introduced a bill that calls for the national anthem to be sung solely in English, in response to a Spanish-language version of the national anthem that was released on Friday.Nothing says helping the country like making sure we sing in the same language.
Mr. President, across the country today, thousands and thousands of immigrants legal and illegal are marching in a nationwide rally. Many are saying that they, too, want to be Americans. If this isn't a joke I don't know what is. If I hear any Republican who supports this say they are more concerned with National security, the war in Iraq and the fight against terror and Democrats aren't, I hope they get this thrown in their face. For all the yapping the Republicans do about Democrats having no plan, they can thank Sen. Alexander for taking up the Senates time with this nonsense.
But, Mr. President, Im afraid the message is, quite literally, getting lost in translation. As part of these demonstrations, a new version of our national anthem, the Star-Spangled Banner, has been produced in Spanish.
