$100 Rebate And ANWR Not Going To Be Enough
So the Republicans are floating their $100 rebate to all taxpayers in America. Thinking this will add some comfort for the pains at the pump. That would be fine if this was a temporary thing, and only the price of gas was affected. But we all know that the price of gas/diesel has increased the price of other things.
Today on the way home from work I was listening to the Ed Shultz radio show. He had a man who worked in construction, more specifically wiring of business and homes, and he said a roll of wire has gone in a couple months from $75 - $80 to $350. When he asked about the increase, he was told that gas prices and China have caused it. I find the China part hard to swallow because it's not like China hasn't been making waves for awhile now. So basically it is fuel and I think the price gouging issue extends further than at the pump. So $100 isn't going to do anything for him. Not to mention that this does nothing to change our "Addiction" to oil.
Which brings us to ANWR. In order to get the $100 rebate we must open ANWR to drilling, not exploring, drilling. Again, this does nothing but feed the addiction rather than fighting the addiction. Plus we ruin another part of the world because we can! Add to it that ANWR, by our governments own estimates, says there is anywhere from 3-10 billion barrels in ANWR. The average of which is 6.5 billion barrels, which we use in a year.
Even if they hit the jackpot, and there is the 16 billions barrels that the proponents of drilling in ANWR say, it will still take a decade to get it out. Then they will need to figure out how to get the oil to the refineries. And after hearing them say how difficult it is to get ethanol from the Midwest to the East Coast, how do you think they will do bringing oil from Alaska? So when they are at their press conference in 2016 saying, "The price jump to $6.50 is due to the difficulties in getting oil from Alaska to the Midwest", how are you going to blame the Democrats then? I won't care because me and my hippie ass will be hovering over you in my new BMW Land Speeder that uses renewable bio-fuel that I make in my backyard.
