National Security Roid Rage Part II

Update on mentally challenged man charged with threats to President Bush.

(St. Louis Post-Dispatch)U.S. Magistrate Donald G. Wilkerson declared Arafat Nijmeh a flight risk and danger to the community and ordered him held until trial. Nijmeh, 26, is a naturalized citizen who was born in Palestinian territory.
I am no lawyer, and I know it is illegal to make threats against the President, but like any other crime, don't you have to be sane and competent? Aren't these nothing more than rants by someone who is nuts?
While hospitalized, authorities say, Nijmeh told employees that he planned to harm Bush once he got out. He also is accused of repeating the threats to Secret Service agents sent to investigate.
Shouldn't we be committing this man instead of prosecuting him? If they can't tell the difference between someone who is nuts and someone who really wants to kill Americans, how can we be sure they are spying on the right people?
