France abandons CPE

The French people have made President Chirac remove the contoversal CPE. The so called "youth jobs plan" has been like gasoline on fire for the past few weeks. While we mock the French, myself included, it is nice to see a government listen to it's citizens and not just stay the course when the course is wrong.

(AFP/Yahoo)"We need to end this, and fast," ran the headline in daily Le Parisien, while conservative Le Figaro warned that the "humiliating" crisis could become "catastrophic" for the country unless it was resolved soon.

"Rarely has the authority of the state been so undermined, rarely have our institutions been handled so roughly," its editorial read.

"From a social and political crisis, it could turn into a crisis for the government unless a clear solution is quickly found."
