6 Dead In Afghan School

A rocket hit Salabagh School in Asadabad killing 6 and wounding 14. A second one landed near by in an empty field. Police said it was the Taliban. However some think because a U.S. military base is near that it was militants firing at the U.S. base and hit the school instead. Either way, militants or Taliban, Afghanistan is not as safe as some will have you think.

(AP)"Shrapnel from the rocket slashed through the children who were studying in the yard because there aren't enough school buildings," said Mohammed Hasan, a police commander in the city in volatile eastern Kunar province, near the Pakistani border. "Six were killed."
As one student said
"I saw so many children on the ground. Many were not moving. Screams were coming from everywhere. I was crying," he told The Associated Press. "One teacher was lying there without a leg."
Unfortunately this isn't the first school hit with violence in Afghanistan.
Dozens of schools have been attacked and many burned since U.S.-led forces ousted the Taliban in 2001 for sheltering terror leader Osama bin Laden. Most of the attacks have come at night and not caused fatalities.

In January, a school headmaster was beheaded in front of his family after refusing to close his school. In October, gunmen shot and killed another principal in front of his students.

The Taliban claim that educating girls is against Islam and they even oppose government-funded schools for boys because they teach subjects besides religion.
Maybe we shouldn't have claimed victory so quick in Afghanistan. Why is it we didn't want to fight the terrorists in Afghanistan? We hear about fighting them there instead of here, so why not fight them in Afghanistan? Afterall, it is where Al Qaida and OBL were/are! That would actually show that this was a war on terror, instead of a war for oil.
