(Yahoo/AFP)Carroll's father Jim told the Christian Science Monitor newspaper that his daughter was forced to make the video in order to be released.

Jill was "under her captor's control," Jim Carroll told the Monitor. He based his information on a long phone conversation with his daughter on Friday.

"She had been taught to fear" the captors, Jim Carroll said. The captors had not only killed her translator, but said they had already killed another American hostage.
