Free Elections Don't Always Work

I know many people forget that there was a terrorism problem before 9/11, but there was, just ask any Israeli. And while it sounds great and is politically correct to be for free elections in the Middle East, do we really want our Troops to die for the free elections that put Hamas or a like group in charge of other Arab countries. I know we have heard so much lately about how important the U.A.E. is to us, and that they are our most important of our allies in that region. I ,however, have always felt Israel was our best friend in the Middle East. And with today's refusal by Hamas to the Russians request for Hamas to disband the militant wing and to recognize Israel, why do we want more?

With that said, even in America, free elections don't always turn out the best leaders and or ideas. So what is the answer? If I knew that I would be collecting millions on some speaking tour of the world. Not to mention the Nobel Peace Prize. But finding a true alternative to fossil fuel is the best way to start to change the culture of the Middle East. Or at the least how we engage the Middle East and maybe they won't think the only thing that matters to the U.S. is their oil. Add to that we won't be funding corrupt and brutal dictatorships. So when we do try to liberate oppressed people, we won't be seen as just trying to prop up another corrupt government.
